COYOTE LACROSSE - SPRING 2011 TRYOUTS
During the Spring 2010 registration process, Coyote Lacrosse Association (CLA) surveyed parents regarding tryouts for players playing at a 6th grade and older level. Based upon results of that survey and discussions among board members, the CLA Board of Directors (BOD) has voted to hold tryouts commencing with the Spring 2011 season.
A frequently asked questions (FAQ) list can be found below and the website will be updated as more detailed information becomes available.
If you have any immediate questions or concerns please contact the CLA Boys Director, Paul Villamaria at

FAQ:
Why does the BOD support tryouts?
The BOD feels that tryouts place players of similar skill level onto the same teams, which provides for the most enjoyable lacrosse experience for all players.
Does this mean there will be a top flight team at all 6-8th grade levels?
Yes, Colorado Youth Lacrosse Association requires all leagues that hold tryouts to place a team in the highest division available.
What teams does this affect?
Spring 2011 tryouts will be held for all 6th grade boys and girls players. Beginning Spring 2012, and going forwards, there will be tryouts for all 6th and 7th grade players, while 8th grade teams will be considered established from prior year.
Does my player have to tryout?
Yes, all 6th grade players will be required to tryout in Spring 2011. All 6/7th grade players will be required to tryout Spring 2012 and going forwards.
When and where are tryouts?
Tryouts will occur late in February 2011, most likely at the Foothills Shaffer Indoor Arena. Notice will be sent well ahead of time.
Who will evaluate skill level?
A mixture of CLA, local area high school and other qualified coaches will evaluate skill levels.
Will tryouts cost us more?
No, all tryout costs are covered by league registration fees.
If my player makes the top flight team, will there be additional costs or expectations?
No additional registration fees will be charged to those players selected for the top level teams. However, those players should expect additional team fees to pay for tournament, practice and travel costs. There will also be expectations that the player can attend three practices a week and a majority of all games / tournaments.
Who is going to coach?
Anybody wishing to be the head coach of a top flight level 6th grade boys or girls team must complete an application by December 15, 2010. The applications will be reviewed by the BOD who will appoint the head coaches. This application will be available on this website at a later date. There will be no change to the process of assigning coaches to teams outside of the top flight division. Coaches will be voluntary and will not be paid for the 2011 season.
Are there a minimum number of registered players required to hold tryouts?
Yes, tryouts will only be held if the number of registered players warrants them. The BOD will make this determination after registration has closed.
When is the registration deadline?
The registration deadline for Spring 2011 is January 30, 2011.
